Harmony Achieved

Posted on Thu Feb 18th, 2021 @ 5:00pm by Commander Tavis Inahri & Commander Magnus Hawkins

Mission: Mission 1: Dirty Little Secret
Location: Captain's Ready Room - USS Odyssey
Timeline: Mission Day 14 - 1023 hours

Approaching the Ready Room, Hawk pressed the chime and let himself inside without waiting for a response.

"Commander Inahri," he said rather formally.

Tavis raised an eyebrow at the abrupt entrance. He'd called for Hawk to come to the Ready Room but he wasn't expecting it to be so quickly. "At ease," Tavis said.

Choosing to sit, as Tavis had this bearing about him where he seemed to thrive in a disadvantaged position, Hawk gave Tavis a nod and waited for him to talk.

"With us heading towards Fiddler's Green, it's been brought up that maybe coming in with a massive starship isn't a prudent plan. I admit, I'm a little embarrassed I didn't consider that before," Tavis said. He studied Hawk's face, hoping to gauge his reaction. "Commander Jasper suggested that we utilize an impounded freighter to sneak a strike team into the Green. What're your thoughts?"

Hawk perked up at the idea and the fact that Tavis has thought to solicit his opinion. Up to this point the senior commander had been throwing his diminutive weight around in some sort of Napoleon Complex. This scenario suggested a possible change in that situation.

"Smart," Hawk simply said. "And I actually think I know where we could get one. Pull up a star chart?"

With a press of a button, the wall panel lit with a current starchart.

"We're here." Hawk pointed at the blip speeding away from the Ulyriallis system at high warp. "The Bajoran wormhole is here." His finger moved diagonally away from the Beta Quadrant into the Alpha Quadrant. "But here in the Borderlands..." He pointed at a third location near Klingon space that formed an equilateral triangle. "This is Starbase 471 in orbit of Ashland. They patrol the independent systems between the Federation and the Empire where there is no law. If anyone is sure to have a spare freighter on hand, it's them. And if we requisition one now, they could deliver it to the wormhole without any time lost."

"This sounds like a good plan." Tavis looked at Hawk, "Go ahead and request the freighter. Minimal crew, though. The last thing we need is for a bunch of outside Officers getting wind of what's going on."

Hawk's brow rolled up in surprise, emphasizing his normally understated ridges. First Tavis was seeking his counsel and then tasked him with a command action such as this? It was enough to make Hawk mistrustful, but he set his natural misgivings aside for the sake of the mission.

"I'll reach out to Starbase 471 immediately," Hawk said. "Is there anything else?"

"When you speak to the Starbase, when they ask you what purpose we have for this freighter, I'm sure I don't need to tell you that we can't let them know." Tavis slid a PADD across the desk towards the man. "Starfleet Intelligence gave me a codeword to use. This is known around the fleet to signify a classified purpose and all questions will cease once this codeword is given. Please utilize it."

Of course it was a Klingon word. Hawk tried not to groan as he tucked the PADD into his waist. "Understood and will do." Standing to his feet, Hawk searched for words to express the sentiment he was feeling. "I look forward to completing this mission." That was nice and neutral, but the subtext held more warmth than previous interactions.

Tavis stood as well, giving the Commander a nod as he walked out of the door, leaving him alone again. This was the first time the two of them seemed to work together, and it went quite more harmonious than Tavis had anticipated. Perhaps this was the beginning of a great collaboration.
